After a difficult season where OFI remained in the Super League the goal for 2021-2022 was a better course. The Cretan team not only managed to stay in the division but came very close to entering the playoffs and claiming a place in the European competitions.

Τη σεζόν 2021-2022 ο ΟΦΗ παρουσιάστηκε πολύ βελτιωμένος σε σχέση με την προηγούμενη. Στην πρώτη φάση του πρωταθλήματος ο ΟΦΗ κατάφερε να πάρει μεγάλες νίκες όπως το 1-2 κόντρα στην ΑΕΚ και το 3-2 κόντρα στον Παναθηναϊκό. Μετά από 26 αγωνιστικές η ομάδα του Ηρακλείου πέτυχε 9 νίκες και 10 ισοπαλίες και με 37 βαθμούς τερμάτισε στην έβδομη θέση. Η έκτη θέση που οδηγούσε στα πλέι οφ πήγε στον ΠΑΣ Γιάννενα έχοντας 40 βαθμούς. Στα πλέι άουτ ο ΟΦΗ πέτυχε μόλις δύο νίκες και βρέθηκε στην όγδοη θέση οριστικά.

OFI failed to distinguish itself in the Greek Cup. In the round of 16, Aris defeated OFI twice, 3-1 and 2-0, and eliminated them from the rest of the tournament.

OFI at the beginning of the season presented three jerseys manufactured by puma. The first was black, gray and white striped, the second black and the third purple. The purple was worn less times than the others, but it was special and beautiful, leaving its mark. Odysseas Lymberakis was one of OFI's defenders that season.
