Match Version
The 1974 World Cup was held in West Germany. The host country was in Group A with rivals Chile, Australia and East Germany. In the premiere of the tournament, West Germany defeated Chile 1-0. It then prevailed over Australia 3-0. The third game against East Germany would decide the first place of the group. East Germany surprised and won 1-0, leaving West Germany second.
In the second round, West Germany was in the group with Poland, Sweden and Yugoslavia. The first team of the group would qualify for the final of the tournament. The Germans were impressive and with three victories won the first place. First they defeated Yugoslavia 2-0, then Sweden 4-2 and finally Poland 1-0.
West Germany's opponent in the final would be the mighty Netherlands who until the final had 5 wins and 1 draw while conceding just 1 goal. The Netherlands started the game impressively and in the very first minute won a penalty without even having time for their opponents to touch the ball. Neeskens scored and the Netherlands took a 1-0 lead. The Germans increased their performance and with a penalty by Breitner equalized at 28'. Then they took advantage of their rhythm and with a goal by Miller in 43' they took a 2-1 lead. The game stayed that way until the end and the Germans won the World Cup for the second time in their history.
This is a jersey similar to the one Miller used in this World Cup. All white with black details and bold numbers on the back is one of the most characteristic jerseys of the team. Miller was West Germany's top scorer in the 1974 World Cup with 4 goals and was one of the most decisive players in this tournament.
