Panathinaikos returned to the titles in 2021-2022 by winning the championship and the Greek Cup. At the same time, they participated in a European tournament after 11 years.
Having a very good squad, Panathinaikos finished second in the regular season, losing first place in the last game to Olympiakos. However, in the playoffs, they eliminated AO Thiras with two wins as well as PAOK with 2-0 wins and reached the finals. With a home disadvantage they were defeated by Olympiakos in the first and third games away but won at home in the second and fourth games. The fifth and decisive final at "Melina Merkouri" in Renti gave the championship to Panathinaikos after the greens won 1-3 and won the 24th championship in their history.
In the Greek Cup, Panathinaikos faced Olympiakos in the round of 16 away and with a 2-3 win, they advanced to the next round. In the quarter-final, the greens won 3-1 against AEK and advanced to the Final 4 of Heraklion. In the semi-final they beat Ilysiakos 3-0. AO Thiras was the opponent in the final. The team from Santorini won the first set but Panathinaikos made the upset and took the victory and the trophy with 3-1.
In the CEV Challenge Cup, Panathinaikos eliminated Ostrava and Oostende and reached the quarterfinals. The Spanish La Laguna Tenerife won in Athens with 2-3 and in Spain with 3-0 and left the green ones out.
This is the jersey worn by Maret Grothes in Volley League and Greek Cup. “Dutch Machine” was one of the team's top players in the 2021-2022 season and was even named league MVP. The captain of the Dutch national team played in almost all the games of the season and performed very well. The difference between the jersey of the Greek competitions and that of the CEV Challenge Cup is that the names of all the athletes were written in English in the Challenge Cup, while in the Greek games the Greek athletes had their names written in Greek. In addition, in the European games the Greek flag was in the center of the shirt on the front as the logo of the Challenge Cup was on the right.
