OFI played in the A2 division (second division) in the 2018-2019 season. Coached by Dimitris Zlatilidis, managed to successfully finish the season and move up to the Volley League for the first time.

Elpis Ampelokipi team had won promotion from Group B but Group A was divided into two sub-groups from which a play-off resulted. OFI first defeated Drapetsona in the semi-final with 3-0 and then faced AS Kerkis in the final. In the final, the Heraklion team was superior and defeated AS Kerkis 3-0 and secured promotion to the top division for the first time in its history.

Vasilis Karassavidis wore the OFI jersey that year and was the team's main libero. With his presence he contributed to the success of OFI. This jersey was worn by him throughout the season.
