The 2017-2018 Super League championship was particularly interesting as after many years the two teams that claimed the title of champion were AEK and PAOK.

After the first 8 matches, AEK had only 4 wins, two losses and 2 draws. However, Manolo Jimenez's team made an impressive run from then on. A long streak of 12 wins and just 4 draws led to the derby against PAOK in Thessaloniki where it would largely decide the title of champion. The cancellation of PAOK's goal as offside and the entrance of PAOK's president into the field with a gun in his belt led to the stoppage of the match and his registration with AEK.

The yellow and black team still achieved 4 wins and a draw, as a result of which they won the Greek championship after 14 years. The fiesta for winning the championship took place on the last matchday in Rizoupoli after the victory over Apollon with 0-1.

In the Greek Cup, AEK eliminated Olympiacos and Larissa, reaching the final. The final took place in OAKA with PAOK taking the victory and the trophy 2-0. In the European competitions, AEK was in the groups of the Europa League. There it finished second behind Milan and passed to the round of 32. After the 1-1 draw in the first match against Dynamo Kyiv, it was followed by the 0-0 draw away from home which left AEK out of the competition.

Patito Rodríguez played in AEK in the 2016-2017 season and was a member of the team at the start of the next season as well. Nevertheless, he left in December 2017. In the 2017-2018 season, he made 2 appearances, against Atromitos and Panaitolikos. This jersey was used in these games and has the relevant Greek league patch on the sleeve.
