In the 2003-2004 season, Porto won the Champions Cup for the second time, for the first time during the Champions League era. The "dragons" had won the UEFA Cup last year in the final against Celtic.

Without being the big favorite, they eliminated the champions of England and France, Manchester United and Lyon, but also the strong Deportivo La Coruna and reached the final. In the final Porto met another outsider, Monaco, who with a great course made this surprise and came to claim the trophy.

The final was held at the Schalke Stadium, the AufSchalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The Porto players were excellent and with goals from Carlos Alberto, Deco and Alenichev took the victory with 3-0 and were crowned European champions.
