European basketball split in the 2000-2001 season. For the first time two different European competitions took place, Euroleague under the auspices of ULEB and Suproleague under the auspices of FIBA. From the Greek side, Panathinaikos and Iraklis chose to participate in the FIBA tournament while Olympiacos, AEK, Peristeri and PAOK participated in the newly established Euroleague. Panathinaikos, who won the Euroleague title last year, beat Alba Berlin in the quarter-finals and qualified for the Final 4 in Paris. Like in the previous season, in the 2000-2001 season, Panathinaikos beat Efes in the semifinals and played with Maccabi Tel Aviv in the final. This time Panathinaikos lost 81-67. The Suproleague competition was not held again but became the "ancestor" of the FIBA Basketball Champions League.
Israeli Oded Kattash was one of the staring players of Panathinaikos team that won the Euroleague in 2000. However, the 2000-2001 season suffered serious injuries and played little. This jersey was never worn by him in the race as he never played in Final 4 but is still a unique piece.
Panathinaikos wore this jersey only in Final 4 of Suproleague. Throughout the season he used a lighter green shirt and a bit different in design.
