In May 2017, Fenerbahce managed to reach the top of Europe for the first time. After participating in the Final 4 of 2015 in Madrid and participating in the final of the Final 4 in Berlin in 2016, it's time to win the title in Istanbul. The regular season found Zeljko Obradovic's team in 5th place. In the playoffs, Fener faced Panathinaikos with a home disadvantage and winning twice in Athens and once in Istanbul, qualified for the Final 4.
Final 4 did not take place on Fenerbahce home court (Ülker Sports Arena) but at Sinan Erdem Dome. In the semifinals, Fener prevailed 84-75 over Real Madrid and advanced to the final for the second consecutive year. The opponent was Olympiakos in final, which had made the surprise and eliminated CSKA Moscow. Fenerbahce was better and prevailed over Olympiakos 80-64, winning the Euroleague title for the first time.
Melih Mahmutoglu as the captain was the first to lift the trophy. However, in the semi-final he did not play and in the final he played only 1'12". This jersey was never worn in the match but it is one of the 3 that were given to the players as a souvenir. It is a player version and has the Final 4 logo printed on it, as in the ones worn by the players. There is no number “10” on the front of the jersey and no “ISTANBUL” on the back below the number. These are the differences from the jersey worn by Fener's captain. It is signed by him and is a gift from Mahmutoglou to the then leader of AEK and his friend, Dusan Sakota.
