The Greek national team wore this jersey at the Eurobasket 1997 held in Spain, mainly in Catalonia. The matches took place in Barcelona, Girona and Badalona. Panagiotis Giannakis as coach lead Greece to a very good Eurobasket but was left out of medals. For the third consecutive European Championship, Greece finished in 4^th place, after Eurobasket in Germany (1993) and Athens (1995).

After an excellent first round, Greece made it 5 to 5 against Lithuania, Turkey, Russia, Israel and France and faced Poland in the quarterfinals. Greece won 72-62. In the semifinals, the later European champion, Yugoslavia, prevailed 88-80. In the race for the bronze medal, Russia was much better and with 97-77 took the victory and the third place, leaving Greece 4^th.

Angelos Koronios was one of the stars of the Greek national team and also one of the first stealers in the tournament (3.1 per game). At that time he was playing in Peristeri.
