In the two seasons 2001-2003, was the only loss of the championship by Panathinaikos that decade, 2002 AEK won the championship, but the greens also lost the Greek Cup of 2002 which was won by Olympiacos. However, Panathinaikos won the Euroleague in 2002 in the Final 4 of Bologna and in the 2002-2004 season made a double in Greece.

Panathinaikos used this jersey for two seasons. In Bologna's Final 4 we may remember a different jersey, which was worn only in the semifinal and the final, but for the entire season 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 this jersey was worn in Greece and Europe. The specific jersey that is presented, however, is from the 2001-2002 season and was worn in Greek League.

Specifically, above the emblem there are two stars which symbolize the two Euroleague trophies that Panathinaikos had conquered until then. As a result, the shirt was worn before winning the Euroleague in May 2002. The fact that Kutluay’s name is written in Greek, there is "adidas" under the number instead of "ATHENS" but also that there is only the mark of ESAKE and not of the Euroleague show that the jersey was worn in A1. Also, the Turkish guard wore the number 12 in the 2001-2002 season while in the 2002-2003 season he wore the number 10.

Ibrahim Kutluay is perhaps the most beloved Turkish athlete that played in Greece. He first came to Greece on behalf of AEK in 2000 and in the summer of 2001 he was acquired by Panathinaikos, where he played for two years. In 2005 he returned to Panathinaikos after his transfer from Ülkerspor but also from the NBA and the Seattle SuperSonics. In the 2007-2008 season, he also played for PAOK. In Greece, he won 2 championships (both with Panathinaikos), 3 Greek Cups (two with Panathinaikos and one with AEK) and the Euroleague in 2002, having starred in the final against Kinder Bologna. In January 2016, he was awarded by Panathinaikos as an informal continuation of "Honoring our Legacy" as one of the top players in the green basketball team.
