In September 2008, Abu Dhabi United Group Investment and Development Limited officially took over ownership of Manchester City for £200 million. The Arab owners, in their attempt to raise the level of the team and claim titles, acquired, among others, the Brazilian Robinho from Real Madrid with the amount of £32.5 million.
The Citizens with Welsh coach Mark Hughes failed to make a good run in the Premier League finishing 10th and failed to secure a European presence for next season. However, in the UEFA Cup of 2008-2009 they reached the quarterfinals. Citizens were eliminated by Hamburg after losing 3-1 to Germany and winning 2-1 in Manchester.
Robinho was one of the top scorers in the Premier League that season with 14 goals, behind Anelka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gerrard in the list of scorers. This jersey is signed by the Brazilian striker.
