In the 2017-2018 season, Atletico Madrid inaugurated its new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano. In the 4th game of La Liga, Atletico gave its first official game in its new stadium in the match against Malaga. The rojiblancos won 1-0 with a goal by Griezmann and inaugurated its stadium successfully.

The construction of the Wanda Metropolitano cost about 240 million Euros and its capacity reaches 70,000. The original plan, however, wanted the stadium to be one of the Olympic projects for the 2016 Olympic Games claimed by Madrid but eventually hosted by Rio.

The Belgian played in 17 games that year with the Atletico jersey as he was transferred to the Chinese Dalian Professional in the middle of the season.
