In the summer of 2019 the Copa Africa was organized in Egypt and it was the first time that this event took place in the summer. Also, for the first time, 24 teams participated instead of 16. The Copa Africa 2019 was scheduled to be held in Cameroon but in November 2018, Cameroon was stripped of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to delays in the delivery of infrastructure.

Algeria made 3 victories in Group C (2-0 Kenya, 1-0 Senegal and 3-0 Tanzania) and in the next phase faced Guinea which they defeated 3-0. In the quarterfinals, Ivory Coast, despite being behind in the score, tied at 1-1. Algeria, however, prevailed 4-3 on penalties and advanced to the semifinals. Algeria led to the semifinals but Nigeria equalized scoring with penalty. With a goal by Mahrez in 95', however, Algeria won 2-1 and advanced to the final.

Algeria-Senegal final took place at the International Stadium of Cairo in front of 75,000 fans. With a shot by Bounedjah which he countered and ended up in the net just in the 2nd minute, Algeria took the lead and kept it until the end. The 1-0 gave the victory to the team of Djamel Belmadi and so Algeria won the Copa Africa for the second time.

Manchester City’s star Riyad Mahrez was the leader of Algeria throughout the tournament and scored 3 goals. The white jersey was the main one of the Algerian team and was worn in the final. This shirt has two stars that indicate the date of conquest of the Copa Africa of Algeria, 90' and 19', however the second star was added after the 2019 event. Also on the sleeves are the patches of Copa Africa and on the back there is the desert fox which is often found on the jerseys of Algeria.
