Wales, along with England, Northern Ireland and Ireland, were one of the British teams to take part in Euro 2016. Led by Real Madrid's star Gareth Bale and Arsenal's Aaron Ramsay, Wales made the surprise move one step away from final.
In Group B, they first defeated Slovakia 2-1, then lost 2-1 from England and finally defeated Russia 3-0 finishing first in the group with 6 points, one more than second England. In the round of 16 Wales faced Northern Ireland, which defeated with McAuley’s own goal. In the quarterfinals Wales faces the very strong Belgium. Although the Belgians took the lead with Nainggolan, the Welsh equalized with a goal by Williams, they took the lead with a great goal by Robson-Kanu and completed the triumph with a goal by Vokes. The semifinal turned out to be much more difficult when Portugal, with goals from Ronaldo and Nani, took the victory with 2-0 and advanced to the final where they won the trophy.
Gareth Bale with 3 goals was the best player of Wales and was in the top eleven of the tournament. The red shirt was Wales' main jersey in Euro 2016. It is characteristic that while at Euro 2016 all the teams that Adidas "dressed" had the traditional three stripes on the side of the jersey, on the players' sides, while in Wales the three stripes remained on the sleeves.
