Colombia was one of the teams that impressed in the 2014 World Cup. In the first round they achieved three victories against Greece, Ivory Coast and Japan and finished in first place with 9 points.

In the round of 16 Colombia defeated Uruguay 2-0 with two goals by James Rodriguez and advanced to the quarterfinals. There Colombia faced Brazil. The Brazilians had a hard time but with goals from Thiago Silva and David Luiz they took the lead. James scored by penalty but the final 2-1 gave the qualification to Brazil.

James Rodriguez was one of the best players of the World Cup. Apart from being the top scorer with 6 goals, he was also a member of the top eleven and at the same time scored the best goal of the tournament against Uruguay. This goal was even awarded by FIFA as the best goal of 2014 with the FIFA Puskás Award. This was Colombia's basic jersey in the World Cup in Brazil and was worn in 4 of the 5 games the team played.
