European champions Liverpool and Europa League winners Chelsea faced off in the UEFA Super Cup final in August 2019 in Istanbul. The referee of the match was Stéphanie Frappart, the first female referee in a final of a European tournament.

In a nice game, Chelsea was ahead with a goal by Giroud but Mane equalized in the second half and so the game was led to extra time. Mane gave Liverpool the lead with his second personal goal, but in the 101st minute Jorginho equalized with a penalty. With the final 2-2 the teams were led to the penalty shootout. The first nine penalties were all accurate. With the score at 5-4 it was Abraham's turn. The Chelsea striker did not manage to beat Adrian and with 5-4 Liverpool won the European Super Cup.

The jersey of the 2019-2020 season was dedicated to the Chelsea stadium. The existing designs are inspired by Stamford Bridge, its platforms and its canopy. Inside is the Chelsea emblem and the The Pride of London logo. Ross Barkley played in the final in Istanbul as a substitute in 101’ in place of Kovacic while he also scored a well-aimed penalty. This jersey is a match version and is the same as the one used by the Chelsea players.
