At the Copa America 2019, Peru was in the same group as the host Brazil, Venezuela and Bolivia. In the first match Peru drew 0-0 with Venezuela, then beat Bolivia 3-1 and finally lost 5-0 to Brazil. Peru finished 3^th in the group with 4 points but qualified as the best third team from all groups.

In the quarterfinals, Uruguay and Peru ended the 90th minute at 0-0 and were led to penalties. There, Peru took the victory with 4-5 and advanced to the semifinals. In the semifinals of Porto Alegre, Peru faced the winner of the previous two Copa America, Chile. With an impressive performance, Peru took a 3-0 victory with goals from Flores, Yotún and Guerrero and qualified for the final for the first time since 1975.

In the final of Maracana, Peru faced the host Brazil. Brazil took the lead early with Everton but with a penalty by Guerrero in the 44th minute, Peru equalized. Brazil again took the lead in additional time of the first half with Gabriel Jesus. Richarlison's penalty in 90' made it 3-1 and Brazil won the trophy.
