In the 2013-2014 season, Panathinaikos made a total renewal. With new coach Giannis Anastasiou and many new players, the team has recovered from last bad year.

Panathinaikos did not play in Europe in the 2013-2014 season. Although it did not start well in the championship, it improved a lot from the middle of the year and then culminating in the victory over Olympiakos in Piraeus with 0-3. The championship ended with a series of 11 games with just one defeat and Panathinaikos was ranked 4^th. However, after the playoffs, the greens finished the season in second place and won a place in the Champions League qualifiers next season.

In the Greek Cup, Panathinaikos was impressive. After eliminating Ergotelis, Iraklis Psachnon, Olympiakos Volos and OFI, it was in the final against PAOK. The team of Giannis Anastasiou was excellent and with 4-1 took the victory and the trophy.

Adidas created a special jersey for Panathinaikos after many decades the team wore horizontal stripes. Mariano Nano was the main left-back of the team and missed a few games that season while scoring 2 goals. This jersey was worn in many games of the year, including the game against Olympiakos under Georgios Karaiskakis.
