Panathinaikos found itself in a difficult group in the UEFA Champions League in 2003-2004 with Manchester United, Stuttgart and Rangers. The course started with a heavy defeat by Manchester with 5-0 while the draw in Athens with the Rangers followed with 1-1 with Pantelis Konstantinidis saving his team from defeat shortly before the end of the match. Panathinaikos appeared weak and lost twice to Stuttgart, 2-0 away and 1-3 to “Apostolos Nikolaidis”.

After a good performance against Manchester United, another defeat came 0-1 with a goal by Diego Forlan. So, the last game, this one against Rangers in Ibrox Stadium, was the one that would decide the third place and the qualification to the UEFA Cup. Panathinaikos, having only 1 point in 5 games, only needed a victory. Rangers took the lead early with a goal by Mols. Panathinaikos immediately equalized with the Lithuanian Raimondas Zutautas with a shot from outside. In the second half the greens were much better and with goals from Basinas and Konstantinou they took the victory with 1-3 and together the third place in the group.

In the UEFA Cup, Panathinaikos faced the French Auxerre. Auxerre, however, with 0-0 in France and a 0-1 victory in Athens got the qualification for the Round of 16. Although Panathinaikos did not do well in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup won both the championship and the Greek Cup.

This jersey was worn by the right-back of Panathinaikos, Giourkas Seitaridis. Panathinaikos wore the white shirt in three games in the Champions League that season, in the premiere with Manchester United and in the two games with Rangers. Seitaridis wore the long-sleeved white jersey, however, only in the game of the 6^th fixture in Glasgow. A characteristic feature of this jersey in contrast to the replicas on the market was that the number was thicker and did not contain the adidas logo while in most cases there was an inner lining.
