UEFA EURO 2020 finally took place in the summer of 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event was held in stadiums all over Europe as it was an anniversary due to the 60th years of the first European Championship held in France in 1960. Italy was in Group A of UEFA EURO 2020. Initially, Italy faced Turkey in the premiere of the Tournament and defeated it 3-0 with an own goal by Demiral and goals by Imobile and Insigne. He then beat Switzerland 3-0 and finally beat Wales 1-0.
First in Group A, Italy faced Austria at Wembley in London in the round of 16. After 90 minutes the score was 0-0 and the teams were led to extra time. There, Italy led 2-0 (Chiesa and Pessina) and with a goal by Kalajdžić, the final score became 2-1.
In the quarterfinals, the Italians found the very strong Belgians on their way. After a very nice game at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Italy qualified with a 2-1 victory where Barella and Insigne gave the lead while Lukaku with a penalty reduced to 2-1. For Italy, Spinazzola left injured, losing the next games of the tournament.
The semifinals of EURO 2020 took place at Wembley in London. Italy faced Spain in the first of two semifinals. Chiesa gave Italy the lead in the 60' while Morata equalized in the 80' for Spain. The 1-1 was maintained in overtime and finally Italy qualified for the penalty shootout with 4-2.
In the final, Italy faced the host England. The Lions started strong and with a goal by Shaw in the 2nd minute, they took the lead. However, Italy improved their performance and with Bonucci made it 1-1 in 67'. As in the semifinal, so in the final everything was judged on penalties. Italy took the victory 3-2 and won the trophy for the second time in its history, 53 years after the previous conquest.
Italy twice wore the white shirt in the tournament, in the premiere against Turkey and in the quarterfinal against Belgium. This jersey is one of the those that Leonardo Spinazzola had at his disposal for the game with Turkey. There are the relevant patches on the sleeves while there are also match details on the chest for the match against Turkey. Puma implemented something new from this event onwards. The team's logo was smaller and closer to its logo in the center of the jersey while below it was written "ITALIA". Spinazzola was a key left-back in 4 of the first 5 games of EURO 2020 having a very good performance until he was seriously injured in the quarter-final against Belgium and did not play in either the semi-final or the final.
