Panionios made a very good run in the 2007-2008 period in Greece and Europe. Coached by Evald Linen, the Nea Smyrni team managed to be in the top five of the league and have a very good run in the UEFA Cup.

For the second year in a row, Panionios finished fifth in the Greek championship. After 30 matches Panionios collected 45 points scoring 13 wins and 6 draws. Larissa also collected 45 points, however, Panionios prevailed in the draw and thus found itself in the playoffs of the championship. In the playoffs he scored only one win in six matches and finally found himself in fifth place, taking the European ticket for the next season.

Panionios may have been eliminated by Iraklis in the Round of 16 in the Greek Cup, but in the UEFA Cup they performed very well. Panionios initially eliminated Sochaux from the first round and made it to the group stage. There they may have defeated Austria Vienna and drawn with Helsingborg but were defeated by Bordeaux, the eventual group winners, and Galatasaray and with 4 points were eliminated level with Galata.

Christos Aravidis played in 17 league games scoring 2 goals. This shirt was worn in the Greek Super League, that's why there is the relevant patch on the sleeve and the Greek font. This was the first period of the Greek striker in the Nea Smyrni team as in the period 2012-2014 he again played for Panionios.
