The Greek national team was in Australia in May 2006 for a friendly match. Australia was in preparation for the World Cup in Germany, which Greece had failed to qualify for.

In a very friendly atmosphere with many expatriate Greeks at the stadium in Melbourne, Australia was the one to take the lead. With a goal by Scocco in the 15th minute, the "Socceroos" took the lead and kept it until the end of the game. Greece, who were in refresh period, put in a good performance with several new players in their lineup but eventually lost 1-0.

Kostas Katsouranis wore this jersey in the Melbourne friendly and probably in the other friendlies of that period as well. For this reason there is no patch on the sleeve of the shirt but at the same time it is formation technology, like those used by the teams wearing adidas at the time. This design was worn by the Greek national team in all the friendlies of 2006 and also in the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2008.
