After the period of the pandemic and the universal lockdown, the Basket League Greece championship started for the 2020-2021 season without people in the stands.

AEK started with the goal of being in the finals of the league and the Cup as the last interrupted season found them in second place in the Basket League. Ilias Papatheodorou was the coach of the team at the beginning of the season, but he was replaced by Vangelis Angelou shortly before the end of the regular season.

With 14 wins and 8 losses, AEK was in fourth place in the standings. With 2-1 victories, they eliminated PAOK and reached the semi-finals of the championship. Panathinaikos qualified for the finals with 3-1 victories, while AEK finally finished in third place after the qualifying matches with Promitheas.

In the Greek Cup, AEK was eliminated early as they were defeated by Lavrio 90-85 in the quarterfinals. In the Basketball Champions League, it managed to reach the second round of the groups, but with opponents Ninzhiy Novgorod, Strasbourg and Turk Telecom, it reached the third place of the group and failed to pass to the quarterfinals.

Linos Chrysikopoulos wore this jersey in his second season at AEK. The Greek forward was one of AEK's most pivotal players that season. This shirt design was worn in both 2019-2020 and 2021-22. However, there were minor differences. In the 2019-2020 season the sponsor betshop was blue while the league patch had the main sponsor of the Basket League which was EKO while on the back there was the NRG logo below the players name. In the 2021-2022 season AEK had a new sponsor and instead of betshop there was betsson. In addition, AEK as usual used this jersey in the domestic competitions as in the BCL they had a different pair of jerseys.
