Panathinaikos with Ivan Jovanovic as coach returned to the titles in 2022 as they won the Greek Cup. The Greens had a good season playing some nice football.

The season started with two defeats in three games for Panathinaikos, but there was a strong improvement in the following period. With 13 wins and 42 points, Panathinaikos was in fifth place in the standings and entered the playoffs with the aim of securing qualification to the European competitions. In the playoffs, Panathinaikos experienced only one defeat, this one in the last game against PAOK with 2-0, while important victories such as those against Olympiakos with 1-0 and 1-2 had preceded it. The result was a fourth-place finish and qualification for the following season's UEFA Conference League.

At the same time, Panathinaikos made an excellent run in the Greek Cup. Having eliminated Atromitos, Volos, Anagennisi Karditsa and Lamia, he reached the final. In the final, they won 1-0 against PAOK and won the Cup after 8 years.
