PAOK celebrated its third consecutive championship victory in the 2016-2017 season after an impressive series of finals.

PAOK started the Volley League season as the holder of two consecutive titles and indeed the only championships in its history until then. The regular season brought PAOK second, 9 points behind the first Olympiacos. The black and white eliminated Ethnikos Alexandroupoli with 2-0 victories and Panathinaikos with 3-0 and reached the finals again. Olympiacos had home advantage and won the first game in Piraeus while PAOK won the second game in Thessaloniki. From there, PAOK won in Piraeus, while in the fourth game, Olympiacos won at PAOK's home. The fifth and decisive game in Piraeus ended 1-3 with PAOK winning its third consecutive championship with Israeli Alexander Safranovich as MVP.

In the Greek Cup, PAOK reached the Final 4, which was held at Alexandrio Melathron in Thessaloniki. There PAOK was defeated 3-1 by Olympiakos in the semi-final. Olympiacos then won the Cup against Kifissia.

In the European competitions, PAOK started with the CEV Champions League qualifiers. Although he initially eliminated the Croatian Kastela, he was subsequently eliminated in the third round by the powerful SKRA. From there, PAOK continued in the CEV Cup where they reached the round of 16 and were eliminated from the French Tour which later won the CEV Cup.

Giannis Takouridis was PAOK's main middle blocker and played in almost all the games of the season. This jersey was worn both in the European games and in several of the Volley League. PAOK also used a white shirt with reverse colors but also an all-black one. However, it was this version of the black that was worn, among others, in the finals against Olympiakos.
