Bilbao ended the 2010-2011 season by pulling off a major upset as they reached the league finals. Despite losing all three games and not winning the title, the season was successful and the big goal for 2011-2012 was a similar run.

Fotis Katsikaris' team was in sixth place in the standings at the end of the regular season, just like the previous season with 19 wins and 15 losses. This pitted Bilbao against Caja Laboral in the quarter-finals. In the "Basque Civil War" Caja Laboral took the victory 77-73 in the first game and 88-90 after overtime in the second and left Bilbao out of the top four.

In the same season, Bilbao also competed in the Euroleague. In the Regular season, managed to be in the fourth place of the group and this brought the qualification for the top-16. In a group with a strong Spanish color, Siena managed to be at the top while Bilbao qualified as second, leaving out Real Madrid and Malaga. In the quarter-finals they faced CSKA with the Russian team qualifying for the Final 4 with 3-1 victories.

Kostas Vasiliadis was one of Bilbao's most valuable pieces. The Greek guard had 20 appearances in the Euroleague and 33 in the ACB, averaging 11.5 points per game, behind only Banic. This shirt was worn in the Spanish league and it shows because of the relevant ACB patch. In addition, it is characteristic that from that season onwards the teams of the Spanish league used to have the number below the sponsor on the front of the shirt, contrary to what was done until then.
