Panathinaikos started the 2016-2017 season with coach Marino Ouzounidis and a team with the aim of being more competitive than previous seasons.

Panathinaikos was unstable in the first round of the championship and stayed away from the first place. However, from the 20^th matchday onwards, he performed well, with the highlight being the victory over Olympiakos with 1-0 and the one against AEK with 2-3. The greens finished in 3^th place, 20 points behind the champion Olympiacos and 4 behind PAOK.

In the playoffs, Panathinaikos started with one draw and two losses. Afterwards, however, they defeated AEK 1-0, Panionios 1-0 and PAOK 2-3 and finally found themselves 3^th behind AEK and secured participation in the Europa League.

In the Greek Cup, Panathinaikos reached the semi-finals. In the first match they beat PAOK 2-0 but in the second leg they were defeated 4-0 in Thessaloniki and were left out of the final. In the Europa League they managed just one draw in six games, that one against Standard Liège 2-2, in a group where Ajax and Celta were the top two.

This jersey was worn by Mubarak Wakaso in Super League games. The Ghanaian played in 8 Super League games, 1 in the Greek Cup and 3 in the Europa League scoring 1 goal. The characteristic of puma's jerseys was the exceptional elasticity they had. In the Greek league, patches were not used on the sleeves, however, one element that stands out in Panathinaikos' jerseys is that in the Super League, they placed the sponsor Molto on the back.
