It was a difficult season for Panionios in 2004-2005. The Nea Smyrni team still had a roster of very talented players while changing three coaches during the season.

Panionios was coming off a good season and so in 2004-2005 he also competed in the UEFA Cup. In the first round they eliminated Udinese but in the group that followed with Newcastle, Sochaux, Sporting Lisbon and Dinamo Tbilisi finished fourth. In the Greek league, the season did not go well. After 30 matches, Panionios managed only 8 wins and 11 draws, finishing 11th. The coach at the beginning of the season was the Czech Karol Pecze, who was replaced in October by Giorgos Vazakas. From April onwards, Dimitris Barbalias was the coach of the team.

Nikos Stamos played in just two games that season at age 17. He was used in the 2-0 win over Ergotelis in the 30th matchday and also in the Cup game against Pamisos where the blue and red team won 2-0. This jersey was used in these two games. During the 2004-2005 season, no patch was used in the league and the only difference compared to the UEFA Cup jerseys is the Greek letters of the name. Le Coq Sportif dressed Panionios in a jersey that was quite reminiscent of the 2003-2004 season but is nevertheless one of the team's most distinctive.
